About Jay

Around 10 years ago, when our sons were in their early teens, my wife and I weren't getting along very well. We had been married for 20 years, yet we were unhappy and frustrated with one another.

Eventually we realized that things weren't going to get better unless we got professional help. We were fortunate enough to find a great marriage therapist, and working with him made a world of difference. We were able to work out our differences in a safe environment. Now, 10 years later, we are still married, and happily so.

Of course, any marriage therapist will tell you that a couple's motivation is very important in determining the success of the therapy process - but my wife and I were very motivated.

Our work with a marriage therapist inspired me to devote my career to working with couples. I love helping men and women learn how to get long better, and to rediscover the love they once had.

You can find out much more about me and how I work in my blog and in this interview.

Credentials

I earned a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Saint Mary's College of California. I also hold a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

I have additional training as a marriage therapist from the world-famous Gottman Institute, and I have studied solution-focused brief therapy with the Brief Family Therapy Center. I'm a member of the national, state, and local associations of marriage therapists.

Volunteer work has been an important part of my career. I spent a year doing volunteer counseling at a domestic violence shelter in Livermore, and another year at a community health center in downtown Pleasanton.
